2006 PROPANE Exceptional Energy® Award Winners Announced at International Builders’ Show

Real Estate Services of CT (Middletown, CT) and Sable Development (Rockford, MI) Honored; Builders Recognized for Planning and Building Entire Developments Fueled by Propane

Orlando, FL (January 13, 2006) — The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) announced today the winners of the fourth annual PROPANE Exceptional Energy® Builder Awards at the International Builders’ Show in Orlando, FL. The PROPANE Exceptional Energy® Builder Awards are given annually to recognize innovative homebuilders who consistently use propane as the primary home energy source to fuel developments they design and build.

The awards recognize builders in two categories: builders of homes valued at more than $250,000; and builders of homes valued at less than $250,000. Real Estate Services of CT, located in Middletown, CT won the award for homes valued at $250,000 or more, and Sable Development of Rockford, MI was honored for its work in developing homes valued at less than $250,000.

Both builders were selected for their commitment to use propane as the primary fuel not just for single homes, but for entire developments. Real Estate Services was recognized for its use of propane to fuel the Spinnaker Community located in East Lyme, CT. The community features 77-detached condominium units, all fueled by a metered propane system featuring underground storage tanks throughout. Sable Development was selected for its use of propane to fuel an 82-home community that also features centralized underground propane tanks and service lines, serving all residential applications from pool heating to outdoor grills to clothes dryers.

“This year’s award winners demonstrate how builders are working closely with propane marketers to develop cost-effective, energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly energy solutions to fuel entire developments where natural gas is not available,” said Roy Willis, president of PERC. “Because of propane’s flexibility and reliability, builders can not only fuel single homes, but entire developments that include the gas-powered appliances homeowners are looking for.”

Real Estate Services of CT has been working with its propane supplier, Bemer Petroleum, for  nearly 20 years to design cost-effective and energy efficient communities fueled by propane. In the past year, Real  Estate Services built 50 homes in Connecticut, all of which were fueled by propane. Their latest community, Spinnaker, an active adult community located in East Lyme, CT, features a metered propane system that is fueled by two underground tanks. As a result, all appliances within the home are fueled by propane including kitchen and laundry appliances such as ranges and dryers, as well as the water heater, high-efficiency furnace and all outdoor applications including grills and stand-by generators. Propane plays an important part in meeting Real Estate Services commitment to design – since the propane fueling system can be stored underground, it helped Real Estate Services design a beautifully landscaped community that plays an important part in attracting potential homebuyers.
