Manufactured HousingSample Sub Sub Title

Clothes dryers are considered a necessity by today's manufactured home buyers. The type that comes with a home is one of many considerations factored into the home-buying decision. Homeowners look for dryers with cycle selections that protect their clothes and fabrics by assuring proper temperature and drying times. They are also vigilant about costs associated with operating the dryer.

Propane-fueled clothes dryers are available with all modern fabric care options and time sensors that stop the drying cycle at exactly the right time. However, their outstanding benefit is the fact that they can complete the drying task in about three-quarters of the time it takes electric dryers, a tremendous money-and energy- saving advantage. This is particularly important in areas where seasonal electric rates prevail and electricity prices increase significantly in the summer.

Propane clothes dryers do the job better, more efficiently, and for less money. Over the long run, this can amount to substantial cost savings for the manufactured homeowner.

Propane Clothes Dryer Designs

High performance propane-fueled dryers are available in a variety of styles. They are designed to be space-saving, convenient, and economical to operate.
  • Standard propane dryers will fit alongside conventional washing machines. Widths vary from 28”-33”, and heights from 40”-44”.
  • Air may be vented through the rear, side, or base of the unit.
  • Drum sizes also vary. A regular-sized drum of six cubic feet will be adequate for an average family of four, while sizes of eight cubic feet and larger will handle heavy operation.
  • In smaller manufactured homes, "stacked" models can be a good choice. This space-saving option has a dryer and a washer together in a single upright unit, allowing them to be installed in virtually any room in the manufactured home.

Propane Dryers' Energy-Efficiency Features
High performance propane-fueled dryers are available with a number of energy-saving features. However, efficiency ratings and Energy Guide labels are not available with these units. To ensure that the manufactured home owner will have the most energy-efficient propane dryer, install units that incorporate the following features:

  • Moisture Sensing Controls: These sensors are located in the dryer drum or the vent. They detect moisture levels and shut the dryer off when the selected level of dryness is reached.
  • Pilotless Ignition: This feature eliminates the need for an energy-wasting standing pilot light.
  • Polymer-Coated Drum Seals: This special coating ensures that heated air will not escape from the drum during operation.
  • Multiple Temperature Setting Controls: These controls save energy by allowing for temperature settings to be varied according to fabric requirements.
  • Diagonal Airflow Pattern: This option provides faster, more thorough drying at lower temperatures.
  • Timed Cycles: Allows the user to operate the dryer for short time intervals when only damp-drying of clothes is desired.

Other features designed to enhance efficiency are: accessible lint filters, cool-down cycles and after-tumble cycles. Features such as these also add operating life to the unit and reduce maintenance costs.
